The result is he renders the good stories that spring from his head into something that is indigestable and adolescent. It may be fair to say that Chuck Palahniuk's style is not to employ any style.
I was somewhat concerned after reading Lullaby. This is the standard Palahniuk, witty, engaging, and edgy. He's redeemed himself with this one. Now, I'm waiting until Pygmy comes out on paperback to see if he can make a good follow up to this one. I thought Chuck may have lost interest in writing good books. Where else can you find a dark comedy centered around a porn star's death while on the set of a gang bang.Don't listen to the naysayers commenting on this novel. This is up there with Choke.
He's got an amazing way with words, and he's not afraid to be gritty to the point of being disgusting. Graphic descriptions of that subject matter. The problem that I had with this book was that it just seemed so rushed, almost as if his publisher was forcing him to put something out. I'm a long time Palahniuk fan. I would imagine that most anyone reading this review is probably already keen on how he writes and what he usually picks to write about, so I won't go into the plot at all. Check. It's an easy read at only 197 pages, and while I don't ACTUALLY recommend it, if you're a longtime fan of Chuck's work, go ahead and read it just to say that you did, or at least so you can see what I'm talking about here.
It revolves around a 600 person gang bang being filmed as a sort of "last hurrah" for the nearly used up porn queen Cassie Wright and four of the people involved in said film. After his amazing novel Rant, I was surprised to see this come out so quickly. You bet. Reading this book was like reading Chuck Palahniuk try to write a Chuck Palahniuk book. A character or two that knows WAY too much about a seemingly trivial and random subject.
I started with Fight Club, wanted more, read Invisible Monsters, and I haven't stopped reading his books since then. Check. Somewhat disturbing/controversial subject matter. Unfortunately, Snuff just doesn't live up to anything he's known for, in my opinion. His usual formula is there, but instead of hiding it within twists and turns and "what the f---" moments, it's right out in the open.
I would recommend reading Fight Club and Choke over this one. Like the title says, this is not as good as Chuck's other books. It's only OK.

Claire or Annabelle Chong, waiting for one woman, porn legend Cassie Wright.Among the "performers" are Mr. Each of the four main characters has ulterior motives, and in some slimy, almost incestuous way, they are all intertwined.Caught in this bizarre web of weed whackers, Chuck Palahniuk has created another masterfully random tale that is enthralling from beginning to end. All impatiently in queue on the set of "World Whore Three," the biggest gangbang in history, larger and filthier than the endeavors of Jasmine St. Wright's every need, which means that she's a personal assistant, manager, planner of "festivities," and in charge of general housekeeping duties.
Slime slingers and chowder chuckers. Wright is the talent wrangler, a woman whose purpose is to tend to Ms. It's not so much an exposé of the porn industry as it is a character analysis that delves into how far people will go when desperation causes the excitement and passion in life to go flaccid.
